Door Texturing and Light Issues

The door's finished textures have been added to the base model in Unreal. However there has been a bit of a problem with the final lighting results in engine by comparison to in Substance Painter.

For some reason, even though the lighting seems to be ok in Substance and the Roughness and Metalic have been adjusted a few times, the material just seems to continue to turn out super dark in the environment with no clear explanation.

At this point I have imported the finished Certains from the GitHub that Chrys had completed. She will be doing the material and texturing for these.

I was trying to sort the door out for a while but after some help from other students on the Games Academy and still know results I decided to the best course of action in order to to keep production moving forward was to add a directional light in front of the door to see of this would help to fix the scene a bit and for the most part it does. This is something I would be interested in correcting near the end of work or post-production.

As can be seem below, I had a very similar problem with the model I made before this, which is the rack of vials for on top of the fireplace. A directional light at a lower level was placed over this as well, however this model was a quite a learning experience overall. This was basically to first time I'd properly utilised the the Height function for a sense of depth on a model when painting. This was for a more blended wood texture overall and a more believable cork look, which seems to have carried over quite well will definitely help to make my work more professional.

This has also been my first time to properly fully utilise the functions of Black Masks in Substance to isolate where I specifically want my Fill Layers and painting work to go. Not just whole objects or UV Maps, but actual individual faces and how clearly these alterations come through using the black-to-white slider.

This technique was shown to me in one of my most recent lectures and how now applied these changes to the majority of all the models I've textured for the environment that really need it, and honestly has been a lot of fun. This will carry over into my Character module.
